Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Males aged between 18 and 34 years were considered eligible if they met the following inclusion criteria: engagement in resistance training for at least six months on a continuous basis; resting blood pressure below 140/90 mmHg; absence of a history of cardiovascular or metabolic diseases; absence of osteomyoarticular injuries within the previous year

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Participants using substances capable of affecting exercise performance or perceptual responses; inability to properly perform maximal strength tests (one repetition maximum).

It is expected to find a lower number of repetitions performed until concentric failure during the unilateral elbow flexion exercise with a load corresponding to 20 percent of one repetition maximum in the blood flow restriction condition compared with the control condition, with an estimated effect size greater than 0.8 according to Cohen’s d, with repetition performance determined by the total count of repetitions completed across all sets performed in each experimental session

It is expected that ratings of perceived exertion will not differ between the blood flow restriction condition and the control condition during the unilateral elbow flexion exercise performed at 20 percent of one repetition maximum, with perceived exertion assessed after each set using the Borg scale from 6 to 20;It is expected to find greater perceived discomfort during the unilateral elbow flexion exercise performed with a load corresponding to 20 percent of one repetition maximum in the blood flow restriction condition compared with the control condition, with perceived discomfort assessed after each set using the Borg CR10 scale;It is expected to find more negative affective responses during the unilateral elbow flexion exercise performed with a load corresponding to 20 percent of one repetition maximum in the blood flow restriction condition compared with the control condition, with affect assessed after each set using the Feeling Scale
