Age
18 Years to 60 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Obese individuals undergoing preoperative preparation for bariatric surgery, of both sexes, aged between 18 and 60 years, living in Florianópolis and Greater Florianópolis, with no contraindications for physical exercise and agreeing to participate in the study. The adult sample will be obtained intentionally, through accessibility and volunteering.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Participants with a history of malignant and symptomatic arterial hypertension, ischemic heart disease, cancer, uncontrolled metabolic or endocrine disorders or any chronic inflammatory disease, who cannot tolerate the use of a hypoxia exposure mask, with mobility problems, with recent surgery in the last 6 months, surgical complications, psychiatric illnesses, neurological disorders, inability to perform any of the research procedures (lack of understanding or collaboration) and who request their exclusion from the study.

Investigate the therapeutic effects of the mild Acute Intermittent Hypoxia (AIH) technique on the mean arterial pressure of obese individuals undergoing outpatient preoperative preparation for bariatric surgery; assessed through the use of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Investigate the therapeutic influence of mild intermittent acute hypoxia on the functional capacity of obese individuals undergoing outpatient preoperative preparation for bariatric surgery; assessed using the 6-min Walk Test, Time Up and Go Test and 5-repetition Sit-to-Stand Test.;Evaluate the therapeutic influence of acute intermittent hypoxia on respiratory muscle strength in obese individuals undergoing outpatient preoperative preparation for bariatric surgery, assessed through measurements of maximal inspiratory pressure and expiratory pressure.;Observe the therapeutic effects of acute intermittent hypoxia on peripheral muscle strength of obese individuals undergoing outpatient preoperative preparation for bariatric surgery, assessed by measuring quadriceps strength and handgrip strength using dynamometry.;Examine whether mild intermittent acute hypoxia modifies sleep quality and daytime sleepiness in individuals with obesity undergoing outpatient preoperative preparation for bariatric surgery as assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index.;Determine whether mild intermittent acute hypoxia is capable of modifying the sarcopenia degree, body composition and frailty criteria of individuals with obesity undergoing outpatient preoperative preparation for bariatric surgery, assessed through the application of the SARC-F tool, a questionnaire consisting of five items that assess muscle performance and strength: the individual's difficulty in carrying weight; in lifting, walking and climbing stairs; and occurrence of falls.;Analyze the therapeutic effects of mild intermittent acute hypoxia on the mood state of obese individuals undergoing outpatient preoperative preparation for bariatric surgery, assessed using the Brunel Mood Scale (BRUMS), which measures the mood state of adults and adolescents according to simple mood indicators (feelings of anger, disposition, nervousness and dissatisfaction).;To analyze the influence of acute intermittent hypoxia on heart
