Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Undergraduate student ; self-reported stress; presence of gastrointestinal symptoms.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Current treatment for gastrointestinal symptoms (medications or probiotic supplements) or for anxiety/depression (antidepressants, anxiolytics, or antibiotics) within the past three months; any physical limitation or disability.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Probiotic supplementation reduced gastrointestinal symptoms and Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) scores.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Probiotic supplementation increased salivary Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) levels. ;Probiotic treatment positively modulated autonomic function, with significant effects on the low-frequency (LF), high-frequency (HF), and LF/HF ratio. ;Probiotics increased serum IL-10 levels and decreased IL-12 levels.
