Age
40 Years to 75 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The study will include patients of both sexes; who follow up at the University of Santo Amaro Dental Clinic - UNISA; aged between 40 and 75 years; with periodontal disease (moderate and advanced); periodontal disease associated or not with diabetes.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria include toothlessness; periodontal treatment within the last six months; HIV-positive; positive-hepatitis C virus (HCV) or positive-hepatitis B (HBV); and / or other systemic disease; smoking; gingivitis or mild periodontitis; continued use of anti-inflammatory and / or immunosuppressive medications.

MeasureTime frame
Improvement of inflammatory marker levels after 30 days from the end of periodontal treatment in the periodontal disease group when compared to the periodontal disease + diabetes group, which will be assessed through the levels of inflammatory markers (circulating microparticles and local inflammatory markers in the gingival crevicular fluid).
