Interventions

This is a single-blind pilot study. Experimental participant: 1 elderly person with mild cognitive impairment will receive transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) at a pre-established intensity

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Elderly individuals over 60 years of age; female; independent; sedentary and/or insufficiently active; not using an assistive device for walking (e.g., cane or walker), with Mild Cognitive Impairment assessed using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment - MoCA with a cutoff score of 25 points; for individuals with 12 years or less of schooling, one additional point should be added; availability to participate in all treatment and evaluation sessions

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Elderly individuals with neurological diseases (e.g., Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Stroke, Vertigo, Dementia); hypertensive individuals; contraindications for the use of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation - tDCS (e.g., use of psychotropic drugs, history of uncontrolled seizures, presence of metallic implants or electrical devices in the skull, presence of unhealed wounds on the scalp)

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
An increase in global cognitive function scores is expected, as verified by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), with a difference of at least 5% expected between pre- and post-intervention scores. ;Improvements in executive function are expected, verified by a reduction of at least 60 seconds in the time taken to complete the Trail Making Test (TMT) before and after the intervention. ;An improvement in balance is expected, verified by an increase of at least 5% in the Mini-BESTest score compared to the pre-intervention assessment. ;An increase in gait speed is expected, verified by a reduction of at least 0.05 m/s in patient performance during the 10-meter Walk Test.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Some improvement is expected in the performance of the respective assessment instruments (Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA); Trail Making Test (TMT); Mini-BESTest and 10m walk test) during the reassessment that will be carried out four weeks after the last session.
