Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Male individuals; diagnosed with substance use disorder; aged 18 years or older; receiving treatment in a therapeutic community in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil; medically cleared to participate in physical exercise programs

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Cognitive impairment; inability to complete the assessments; refusal to provide written informed consent

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate the effectiveness of resistance training and recreational physical activity on the physical and mental health of individuals recovering from substance use disorder. The outcome will be assessed through anthropometric, cardiovascular, and quality-of-life evaluations performed before and after the 12-week intervention. Changes in body mass, body mass index, body adiposity index, waist-to-hip ratio, blood pressure, heart rate, and SF-36 questionnaire scores will be observed

To evaluate the presence of physical exercise and leisure-time physical activity in treatment protocols for substance use disorders in Brazilian therapeutic communities. Assessed through document analysis of institutional protocols and interviews with managers or technical coordinators. The percentage of institutions offering physical exercise and/or leisure-time physical activity, weekly frequency, duration, and types of activities provided will be recorded;To investigate how physical exercise is currently perceived within therapeutic communities. Assessed through a scoping review of the scientific literature. The main reported benefits, barriers, implementation strategies, and exercise-related outcomes described in the included studies will be analyzed;To characterize the sociodemographic and clinical profile of individuals with substance use disorders residing in therapeutic communities in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Assessed through structured interviews and medical record analysis. Variables including age, education level, marital status, primary substance of use, duration of substance use, abstinence period, and length of stay in the institution will be recorded;To examine quality-of-life domains in individuals recovering from substance use disorders. Assessed using the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). Scores from the eight SF-36 domains and the physical and mental component summaries will be analyzed;To measure anthropometric indicators in individuals recovering from substance use disorders. Assessed through measurements of body mass, height, waist circumference, and hip circumference. Absolute values expressed in kilograms, meters, and centimeters will be recorded;To calculate anthropometric indices related to body composition and cardiometabolic risk.
