Postural Balance Musculoskeletal and Neural Physiological Phenomena

Interventions

This is a single-blind, two-arm, randomized controlled clinical trial. Randomization will be performed using simple randomization. Experimental group: 25 elderly individuals who will receive a structu
1 (slight increase in intensity)
2 (greater demand for simultaneous tasks and smaller base of support). The frequency will be 3 to 5 times a week, with an average time of 30 minutes per session. Control group: 25 elderly individuals

Age
60 Years to 80 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Elderly individuals aged between 60 and 80 years; both genders; with low levels of physical activity; independent in activities of daily living; preserved understanding for performing simple commands; no use of walking aids

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Elderly individuals with severe mobility limitations; tumors; recent fractures or surgeries; neurological diseases; probable cognitive impairment; continuous use of psychotropic drugs; acute illnesses or any clinical condition that prevents the safe performance of the exercises

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
It´s expected to observe the effects of a home-based exercise program on balance, gait, and functional mobility in elderly individuals with low levels of physical activity, using standardized instruments validated at the beginning and end of the study.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
It´s expected to observe functional improvements of participants in the following tests: Timed Up and Go Test (TUG), Functional Reach Test (TAF), Sit-to-Stand Test, 10-Meter Walk Test, Dynamic Gait Index, Mini-BESTest, and Strength Platform ;It´s expected to find the evolution of patients' scores on the following questionnaires: Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and the modified Baecke Questionnaire for the elderly (QBMI). ;It´s expected to observe the contribution of the exercise program to the promotion of active aging, the maintenance of autonomy, and the improvement of the quality of life of the elderly participants, through self-reporting during interviews at the beginning and end of the study.
