Interventions

This is a randomized, longitudinal, two-arm, open-label clinical trial that will be carried out in a public hospital in the interior of the state of São Paulo. The sample size calculation resulted in
T1 (individual online meeting) – 3 weeks after T0 - Discuss the nurse's prior knowledge about communication and the communication barriers that may arise during interpersonal interaction and feedback
T2 (individual online meeting) – 3 weeks after T1 - Address the main theoretical concepts about communication, including theoretical models, types of communication, active listening, empathy and asser
T3 (individual online meeting) – 3 weeks after T2 - Conduct practical training (video discussions) on active listening, using reflection, summary and paraphrasing techniques to understand and interpre

Age
18 Years to No maximum

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Be a nurse; provide direct patient care; work for at least three months in the institution; not have a temporary contract; not have previously completed a communication training program; be at least 18 years old; both sexes

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Nurses who did not attend two intervention meetings; or who did not respond to the instruments, in the last stage of this phase of the study

It is expected to find an improvement in the self-perception of nurses in their interprofessional communication, assessed by the Interpersonal Communication Competence Scale and the Self-Assessment Scale on Professionalism and Interpersonal Communication, the higher the score, the better the self assessment on communication and professionalism between patient-nurse

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
It is expected to find an improvement in nurses' perception of their emotional intelligence, measured by the Brazilian version of the Schutte Emotional Intelligence Self-Report Test. The higher the final score, the higher the individual's level of emotional intelligence; patient safety climate, measured by the Safety Climate Subscale of the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire – Short Form. Scores above 75 indicate the perception of a safe environment for the patient; and nurses' perception of the presence of healthy characteristics in the professional nursing practice environment, measured by the Health Work Environment Assessment Tool. The higher the score, the greater the agreement of the presence of the standards in the daily practice of the health team
