Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: To be part in this study participants have to be forty years or older, have breast cancer stage one to three certified by the physician and recorded in the medical promptuary; undergoing hormonetherapy, to have an authorization to practice Mat Pilates and the tests; live in the city of Presidente Prudente; not have practiced any type of systematic physical activity six month before the study, and sign the consent form

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Participants will be excluded if they have three consecutive non attendance to the intervention; more than seventy five percent of absents within a month during the intervention; physical impairments to perform the tests and the Mat Pilates intervention.

Hip flexor-extensor isokinetic and isometric assessments Concentric and eccentric hip flexor-extensor muscles peak torque, and mechanical work, hip flexor-extensor muscles isometric peak torque of the prefere lower limb will be measured with an isokinetic dynamometer (BIODEX Medical Systems 4, Shirley, NY, USA). Peak Torque and mechanical work will be normalized by the participant’s body mass (Nm•kg-1 and J.kg-1, respectively). Prior to testing, participants will perform a warming up consisting of five minutes cycling at 50 Watts on a cycle ergometer. Thereafter, participants will lay down in a dorsal position on the dynamometer chair. The femur great trochanter will be aligned with lever arm rotation axe with the trunk stabilized with straps over the chest and pelvis. The preferred lower limb tested will be fixed to the dynamometer lever arm at the level of the thigh. The hip and knee of the lower limb not being tested will remain extended and fixed with a strap around the tibia. The lower limb angle of reference will be established at 90° of hip flexion following manufacturer recommendations. The full hip extension will be considered at 0°. Once the participant is positioned, a specific warming up will be carried out with ten repetitions of flexor and extensor muscles concentric contractions at 120º•seg-1. Afterward, the isometric tests will consist on three maximum isometric voluntary contractions (MIVC) of 5 seconds (s) and a fourth repetition will tested when the coefficient of variation was higher than 5%. The isometric contractions for the flexor muscles will be performed at 15° of hip flexion, while for the extensor muscles will be performed at 100°. After two minutes rest, concentric/eccentric contractions for the flexor muscles at 90° range of motion will be carried out. Nutritional assessment A certified nutritionist through a Food Record will carry out the dietary assessment, which will be applied during three days (two weekdays and one weekend day). The food record should contain all food eaten during the day, specifying the quantity of each meal. It will be carried out before, during and at the end of the intervention. ;Functional Capacity Assessment Functional capacity will be assessed through lower limbs agility and lower and upper limbs flexibility with Jones and Rikli (2000) test, described below: Timed up and Go Participants will rise from a chair without hands assistance, they will walk three meters in a straight line as fast as possible without running, return straight and sit on the chair. Two attempts will be performed with an interval of one and a half minutes between them. The stopwatch will be triggered at the beginning of the test and the best time in seconds will be used for analysis. 30-s chair stand Participants will start in sitting on a chair of 43 cm height approximately, their feet in contact with the floor and both arms crossed on the chest. They will stand up and down as many times as possible during 30 s. Back Scratch To assess shoulder flexibility and mobility, participants will perform the back scratch test. The elbow of the non-preferred arm will remain flexed behind the back, below the shoulder, with both of the hand palms facing each other; the elbow of the preferred arm flexed over the shoulder with the hand palm facing the back. Participants should try to approximate hands or overlap them and maintain this position for about 2 s. If there is a distance between both middle fingers the value scored would be negative; if the fingers touched each other the value recorded will be considered zero and when fingers or hands were overlapping, the value would be considered positive.
