Tobacco Use Cessation

Interventions

Clinical study with 2 groups (N = 60) of patients between 18 and 54 years old: NF-nonsmokers (n = 30) and
F- smokers (n = 30). The groups will be submitted to home bleaching with 22% carbamide peroxide (PC), for 1 hour a day, for 14 days. Analysis of cell color and changes will be carried out before bleac

Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 54 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Volunteers aged between 18 and 54 years; nonsmokers or smokers; volunteers with teeth of color A2 or darker; presence of the 6 upper anterior teeth

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Presence of erosion, abrasion or friction in the anterior teeth; volunteers who have undergone previous whitening treatment; presence of periodontitis; presence of dental caries; any systemic diseases; restorations in the upper anterior teeth

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Smoking (using the color evaluation method, micronucleus test, and evaluation of dentinal sensitivity, it will be sought to verify whether smoking patients are less effective in tooth whitening, less dentin hypersensitivity and greater cell genotoxicity).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Tooth color change (color coordinates will be recorded and color differences between smokers and non-smokers at different times will be calculated with the CIELAB (?E * ab) and CIEDE2000 (?E00) equations before and after the bleaching procedure). It is expected to find a lower degree of tooth whitening in the group of smoking patients.;Genotoxicity of the oral mucosa (the number of micronuclei and metanuclear changes will be assessed in smoking and non-smoking patients, prior to and after the tooth whitening procedure). It is expected to find a higher degree of genotoxicity in the group of smoking patients.;Dental hypersensitivity (will be available in the group of smokers and non-smokers, and after the whitening procedure, using the Visual Analogue Scale). It is expected to find a higher degree of sensitivity in the group of smoking patients.
