Eligibility

Age
20 Years to 50 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Individuals who required ceramic restorations in the region of the 2nd right premolar to the left 2nd premolar of the maxillary arch were selected, of both sexes and varied ages, with vital teeth and good condition of periodontal health attested by clinical examination.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients who made continuous use of analgesics and / or anti-inflammatory drugs were excluded, as such drugs could mask the results.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Expected outcome 1: to clinically assess the preoperative dental sensitivity threshold (baseline) and postoperative dental hypersensitivity [24h after cementation (t0), 7 days after t0 (t1), 15 (t2), 30 (t3), 60 days after t0 (t4)] in teeth restored with metal-free ceramics (ceramic veneers and crowns) using a temperature stimulating device. It is expected that postoperative dental hypersensitivity, if it occurs, will be short-term (up to 30 days) and regardless of the degree of maladjustment of the ceramic restoration. In addition, the type of veneer cement will not influence the occurrence of postoperative dental hypersensitivity.;Outcome found 1:The Quantitative Sensitive Test no found increase in tooth sensitivity after installation of the restorations in none of study times for the two cements utilized. Comparing the analyzed faces found no significant statistical difference in none of study times. However on subjective analysis, patients reported the occurrence of postoperative dental hypersensitivity intake of cold drinks until 30 days.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Expected outcome 2: the marginal integrity of tooth restorations will be verified with the aid of a scanning electron microscope at times [t0 (day of cementation), 15 (t1), 30 (t2) and 60 days after t0 (t3)]. It is expected that no fractures or mismatches will occur on the edge of the ceramic restoration.;Outcome found 2: It was verified that the margin of the restoration to the tooth was fully adapted without fractures or bubbles. In addition, it was found that the surface treatment for the installation of veneers promotes the opening of the dentinal tubules below the cementum-enamel line, which explains the hypersensitivity reported by patients when eating cold drinks.
