Age
18 Years to No maximum

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Both genders; age over 18; patients undergoing surgical treatment for squamous cell carcinoma of the upper aerodigestive tract

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Salvage surgery; previous radiotherapy or chemotherapy; palliative surgery; diagnostic surgical procedure; surgical procedure to correct complications; Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) 3 or 4; Body Mass Index (BMI) less than 18; and any other surgical procedure that does not have an oncological curative purpose

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Evaluate the difference in the incidence of postoperative complications by recording complications and subsequently comparing between the study arms.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Evaluate lymphedema by recording cervical and facial circumference measurements, photographic records, and drain output.;Evaluate the progression of pain using the visual analog scale for pain and recording the use of analgesics with their respective doses.;Assessment of the difference in quality of life, both between the study arms and in relation to the patient's progression, by applying the EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC QLQ – H&N35 quality of life questionnaires during the immediate and late postoperative periods.
