Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The inclusion factors will be: young adults between the ages of 18 and 40, of both sexes, with indication of gastroplasty

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The exclusion factors of the sample will be: diagnosis of chronic diseases such as epilepsy, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis; bucco-dentofacial diseases or trauma; use of tobacco or illicit drugs; Diseases that alter the quantity and quality of secreted saliva, such as Sjögren's syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus and sarcoidosis

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Expected outcome 1: We expect to see whether surgical treatment (gastroplasty) has positive impacts on oral health. Method used: Before and after bariatric surgery, the volunteers will be evaluated for oral health by the periodontal index and DMFT.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Expected outcome: It is also expected to better understand the role of oral bacteria in obesity and whether they could serve as biological indicators for overweight. Method used: Quantitative PCR for the detection and quantification of microorganisms.;Expected outcome: The occurrence of cytogenetic alterations in individuals submitted to gastropasty. Method used:Test of micronuclei in oral mucosa cells;Expected outcome: Verify the expression of anti-and pro-inflammatory cytokines against an improvement in insulin resistance, contributing to the prevention and early diagnosis of oral disorders related to morbid obesity and diabetes mellitus. Method used: Analysis of salivary inflammatory cytokines.
