Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Elderly individuals aged between 60 and 90 years; clinical diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus according to American Diabetes Association criteria for the experimental group; individuals without diabetes for the control group; ability to understand and agree with research procedures; ability to perform respiratory tests and blood collection; availability to attend the two scheduled in-person visits
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Active smoking or history of smoking greater than 10 pack-years; previous diagnosis of respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or asthma; acute respiratory infection in the last four weeks; current use of immunosuppressive medications or systemic corticosteroids; presence of severe decompensated diseases that prevent the performance of the proposed tests
