Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Both sexes; 6 to 11 years; mixed dentition; Class I malocclusion; atresia of the upper and lower dental arch; mild to moderate crowding of the lower dental arch
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients with a history of previous orthodontic treatment or extraction of permanent teeth; patients with systemic or neurological alterations that difficult orthodontic therapy; presence of craniofacial syndromes or anomalies; loss of deciduous mandibular canines and second molars; presence of tooth agenesis

| The primary outcomes will consist of measurements performed on digital dental models and teleradiograph images for evaluations and comparisons of the dentoskeletal effects of inferior dentoalveolar expansion of the Williams and Schwarz appliances. | — |

| The secondary outcomes will consist of assessments of orofacial functions, quality of life, plaque index and pain level to compare the alterations of the orofacial functions and other conditions after the procedure of expansion of the upper and lower arches. | — |
