Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Rate of positive blood cultures, verified by the analysis of the results of the hospital laboratory, in patients with no other outbreak of infection detected clinically, suggesting infection related to the use of central venous catheter. Blood cultures were processed in automated system Bactec 9120 (Becton Dickinson). Positive samples were stained by gram and seeded in selective media (MacConkey agar, mannitol agar, blood agar). The result will be presented in percentage of cases of infection on the number of total cases of patients under parenteral nutrition. | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Death rate at the current hospitalization, verified by hospital discharge or death register of the present hospitalization, by electronic medical record, in all patients submitted to parenteral nutrition. The result will be presented in percentage: number of deaths on the number of patients who were submitted to parenteral nutrition in the period. | — |
