Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Volunteers must be over 18 years of age; both sexes; healthy; with impacted lower third molars in similar positions and without active infection (pericoronitis)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Use of any medication in the postoperative period not foreseen in this methodology; presenting any allergic reaction to 0.01% methylene blue; failure to attend scheduled postoperative follow-up appointments; surgeries exceeding 40 minutes in duration; a difference greater than 25% in surgical times between the first and second surgeries and withdrawal of consent by the participant for data collection

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate the effectiveness of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) in reducing postoperative complications in lower third molar extractions, with emphasis on pain reduction, using a visual analog scale (VAS), edema, facial measurements at three distinct points: tragus from the ear to the labial commissure, tragus to the soft tissue pogonion (chin), and mandibular angle to the ala of the nose, and trismus, maximum mouth opening, during the established follow-up periods

MeasureTime frame
Improved tissue healing is expected within 14 days after surgery with the use of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT), in addition to improved quality of life for patients
