Age
18 Years to 70 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with sickle cell disease; over 18 year, with no sickle cell crise at least 30 days before the beginning of the exercise protocol; who agreed to participate in the study and signed an informed consent form.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients who did not agree to participate in the study.

MeasureTime frame
The analysis of the variables related to the exercise test showed a favorable effect in the group submitted to 8 weeks of regular physical exercise (EXE), showing improvement in the maximum heart rate (maximum HR), in the relative peak VO2, in the distance covered in the exercise test. Regarding ecochordiographic functional capacity, the 8-week home-based exercise program had a favorable impact on left ventricular systolic and diastolic function

MeasureTime frame
The home-based exercise program proved to be effective for safety, adherence and viability, as no complications or sickling crisis were observed in the group submitted to exercise (EXE). Regarding the adherence and feasibility of the program, its effectiveness can be observed when observing that all students in the group that exercised concluded the program with an adherence equal to or greater than 3 times a week following the recommendation of the American Thoracic Society.
