Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adults who are 18 years of age or older; Body Mass Index greater than 40Kg/m2; Body Mass Index greater than 35Kg/m2 with comorbidities; both sexes

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Pregnant women; patients using a pacemaker

MeasureTime frame
To observe an improvement in nutritional status, by reducing body weight (Kg), body mass index (Kg/m2), body fat (% and Kg), changes in fat-free mass (% and Kg), food intake (food survey). It is also expected to observe a reduction in oxidative damage, by measuring the concentrations of substances reactive to thiobarbituric acid, and protein oxidation, and the inflammatory state, by assessing the serum concentration of adipokines (TNF-alpha; interleukin 1, 6, 10). ). It is also expected to observe a reduction in the lipid profile, evaluated by the serum concentrations of triglycerides and total cholesterol and fractions.

To demonstrate the applicability of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy to evaluate the oxidative and inflammatory status of patients during the treatment of severe obesity. Considering that oxidative stress and the inflammatory state are directly associated with the pathophysiology of numerous diseases and their complications, and the factors that make their analysis impraticable in biochemical routine tests, the scientific information could contribute to the development of methodologies for the use of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopyto monitor the health conditions of individuals in different clinical conditions.
