18 Years to 90 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The following inclusion criteria were used: Individuals of both genders; aged 18 years or over; undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting with extracorporeal circulation and median sternotomy.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: As an exclusion criterion for emergency surgery; patients with hemodynamic or respiratory instability (mean arterial pressure less than 70 mmHg or greater than 110 mmHg, tachycardia above 100 bpm, bradycardia less than 60 bpm, tachypnea greater than 25 ipm and bradypneia less than 12 ipm, drop in oxygen saturation less than 90% ) during the evaluation or application of the method; physical limitation that hindered the assessment; stay in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for more than 4 days; readmission to the ICU before hospital discharge; death; individuals with neurological deficit or difficulty in understanding; do not collaborate with the proposed techniques, compromising the assessment of functional capacity.

MeasureTime frame
Difference between lung function, muscle strength and range of motion in the postoperative period when compared to the preoperative period. This test was performed in the patient's room in the hospital ward. Lung function assessed by ventilometry, muscle strength by manovacuometry and amplitude by goniometry.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Compare the ventilatory muscle strength, lung capacity and range of motion of patients who underwent the Pilates method when compared to control. Lung function assessed by ventilometry, muscle strength by manovacuometry and amplitude by goniometry.
