Age
65 Years to 80 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Older adult volunteers; both sexes; age between 65 and 80 years; no resistance training for the previous six months; independence in activities of daily living; medical clearance for physical exercise

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Diagnosis of decompensated cardiovascular disease or acute infections; diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders, anatomical or functional limitations that preclude participation in resistance training; recent use of corticosteroids or anabolic hormones; recent orthopaedic surgery involving the lower limbs

We expect that an adaptive resistance training protocol with individualized volume progression (ADAP) will promote greater muscle hypertrophy, assessed by increases in vastus lateralis muscle cross-sectional area [mCSA] measured by B-mode ultrasonography, and lower interindividual variability compared with the traditional resistance training protocol (TRAD)
