This is a randomized controlled clinical trial involving 44 individuals diagnosed with paraplegia resulting from spinal cord injury (SCI). The randomization procedure will be performed by means of a l

Age
18 Years to 50 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Volunteers of both sexes; aged 18 to 50 years; with a medical diagnosis of spinal cord injury with neurological levels ranging from the second thoracic segment to the first lumbar segment; with spinal cord injuries classified as complete like paraplegia and anesthesia and incomplete like paraplegia and hypoesthesia; with an injury dating back more than 6 months; who do not regularly engage in physical activity or physical therapy

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Individuals with other associated neurological diseases like the traumatic brain injury and peripheral nerve injury; heart disease; lung disease, suspected LME; and those who are unable to complete the tests for any reason including withdrawal, hospitalization, infections, and skin, osteoarticular, vascular, or respiratory complications

Primary

MeasureTime frame
In the chronic response an increase in heart rate variability is expected when comparing the implementation of a physical fitness program with that of physical therapy after 4 months of interventions

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The acute response is expected to show changes in heart rate variability metrics after the first three interventions;In the chronic response, an increase in muscle strength, assessed by dynamometry, is expected after the intervention;In the chronic response, an improvement in quality of life, assessed using a validated scale, is expected after the intervention;In the chronic response, an improvement in functionality, assessed using a validated scale, is expected after the intervention;A reduction in sleep disturbances, assessed using a validated scale, is expected as a chronic response following the intervention;A reduction in symptoms of depression, assessed using a validated scale, is expected as a chronic response following the intervention
