Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Non-pregnant adult subjects; aged between 18 and 40 years; with ankle dorsiflexion limitation measured by the Weight Bearing Lunge Test (Lunge Test); who have never undergone manipulative treatment or manual therapies; without ankle and/or foot surgery, ankle sprains in the last 6 months; without a diagnosis of neurological disease; who agree to participate in the study by signing the informed consent form
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Participants who present with acute musculoskeletal and osteoarticular conditions in the lower limbs on the day of the assessment and intervention will be excluded, with acute musculoskeletal and osteoarticular conditions in the lower limbs defined as those for which participants are using analgesics and anti-inflammatory medications to control pain and the inflammatory process; conditions that interfere with gait or standing position
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| It is expected that osteopathic manipulative treatment will produce an acute effect on ankle dorsiflexion range of motion, leading to an increase in dorsiflexion movement in individuals with limitations measured by the Weight Bearing Lunge Test | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| An additional effect is expected (a) on the spatiotemporal gait variables with an increase in stride length, an increase in gait speed, and maintenance of the relationship between the stance and swing phases, and (b) on the kinematic gait variables with an increase in ankle joint angles during the initial contact phase of stance and swing phase, as well as in knee and hip angles in the sagittal plane during both the stance and swing phases | — |
