Interventions

This is a randomized controlled clinical trial with two arms and a double-blind design, including 36 active and independent older adults (=60 years), equally allocated into an intervention group (n=18
randomization will be performed using a computer-generated random sequence, with allocation concealment ensured by an informatized system
blinding will be applied to the evaluators through participant coding, preventing knowledge of group allocation, and to the participants regarding the study hypothesis
the study will last 12 weeks, with two weekly sessions of 60 minutes, following a specific protocol for each group.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age greater than or equal to 60 years; both sexes; independent and without recent yoga practice; physically active according to the international physical activity questionnaire; preserved cognitive function as assessed by the mini-mental state examination; absence of severe diseases or uncontrolled psychiatric disorders; signed informed consent form

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: younger than 60 years; dependent in activities of daily living; with recent yoga practice; physically inactive according to the international physical activity questionnaire; with impaired cognitive function as assessed by the mini-mental state examination; with severe diseases or uncontrolled psychiatric disorders; absence of a signed informed consent form

MeasureTime frame
It is expected to find significant improvements in cardiac autonomic regulation and executive functions in independent older adults, verified by heart rate variability using the Polar H10 with Elite app and Kubios software, and by the trail making test – parts A and B, five digit test, and quick intelligence test, based on the observation of significant changes between pre- and post-intervention measurements

It is expected to find improvements in physical fitness, emotional regulation, and quality of life, verified by standardized functional tests, validated questionnaires of emotional regulation and quality of life, based on the observation of significant changes between pre- and post-intervention measurements
