Interventions

This is a quasi-experimental, non-randomized study using a convenience sample. The target sample consisted of 80 participants. The total number of participants was 30 elderly individuals in two groups:
participants chose which group they wished to belong to during recruitment. Of the 68 elderly individuals approached, 30 agreed to participate in the study, being allocated according to their preferen

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Elderly individuals with hearing loss or uncompensated visual impairment; a score of 7 or lower on the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) scale; with progressive cognitive impairment, such as a medical diagnosis of dementia; for discontinuation criteria, a minimum participation of 50% in activities, both online and by performing activities individually at a time convenient for the participant

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Expected Outcome 1:It is expected that the tele-workshops will promote the health of the elderly participants, and that there will be clinical improvement in the results of cognition, depression, and instrumental activities of daily living tests after three months of intervention.;Outcome 1: In the intervention group, the results of the Geriatric Depression Scale score showed a decrease in the mean, from 4.2 in the pre-test to 3.0 after the intervention. There were fewer responses suggesting depression (p-value = 0.404). In the intervention group, the results of the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) score showed an increase in both the mean and median of the post-test when compared to the pre-test. Improvement in independence in instrumental activities of daily living after the 3-month intervention (p-value = 0.010). This coefficient is statistically significant at the 5% significance level, as p-value < 0.05. In the intervention group, the results of the Mini-Mental State Examination (BRAZITEL-MMSE) score showed an increase in both the mean and median of the post-test when compared to the pre-test. Improvement in cognition after the 3-month intervention (p-value = 0.0493). In the control group, the results of the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) score did not show changes in the post-test when compared to the pre-test. In the control group, the results of the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) score showed a slight increase in the median post-test when compared to the pre-test, demonstrating an increase in dependence after three months. In the control group, the results of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score showed a decrease in the post-test when compared to the pre-test, indicating an increase in cognitive impairment after three months (p-value = 0.065). Overall results for the study population on the Geriatric Depression Scale showed an average score below 5 points in the pre- and post-intervention periods, not suggesting d
