Eligibility

Age
6 Years to 8 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Mixed dentition; 6 to 8 years of age; both genders; presence of permanent first molars and central incisors in the dental arches; overbite of -1millimeter or less; absent or mild dental crowding; absence of posterior crossbite; history of at least one deleterious habit

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with history of previous orthodontic treatment; presence of dental or supernumerary agenesis; loss of permanent teeth; presence of craniofacial anomalies and associated syndromes or any other type of systemic or neurological alteration that would make it impossible to perform the procedures of intervention

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
It is expected to find greater efficacy and efficiency in the treatment of open bite in early mixed dentition with a fixed palatal crib associated with orofacial myofunctional therapy compared to treatment with a fixed palatal grid alone. For this purpose, cephalometric radiographs taken pre- and post-intervention will be used, which will be digitized/analyzed in the Dolphin® program. We will observe the frequency of overbite correction and treatment time

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
It is expected to observe a positive relationship between changes in tongue pressure force with orofacial myofunctional therapy and changes in the treatment of open bite in early mixed dentition. To achieve this, measurements of tongue pressure force will be used pre- and post-intervention using the Iowa Oral Performance Instrument (IOPI) and cephalometric radiographs taken pre- and post-intervention, which will be digitized/analyzed in the Dolphin® program. We will observe changes in tongue pressure force and cephalometric measurements
