Interventions

This is a randomized clinical study, with two parallel arms, blinding of the evaluator and participants, and written based on the “Standard Protocol Items: Recommendations for Interventional Trials” (
traction with a load of 30kg) in a hidden manner, without them knowing which group they are in. The evaluator will also be unaware of each participants group - that is, we will have a "double blind".

Age
40 Years to No maximum

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Volunteers diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis; both genders; age over 40 years; feel pain in the knee with osteoarthritis; be able to walk without the aid of canes or walkers; be able to bend the knee up to 60º

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Volunteers who underwent analgesic procedures 24 hours before the research; having undergone knee surgery in the last 12 months; present systemic inflammatory disease; to have a tumor in the knee; express skin diseases and/or open wounds around the knee joint; to have pain in the lower extremities related to: central nervous system disease; fibromyalgia; polyneuropathy; restless legs syndrome; hip diseases; compression of nerve roots

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
It is expected to find a greater immediate decrease in pain intensity, of at least 2 points, on the numerical pain scale, when applying mechanical joint traction to the knee with a load of 30kg.;It is expected that the timed walking speed will be modified, reaching a shorter time to cover 3 meters after the intervention.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
It is expected that the passive knee flexion range of motion will increase immediately in the goniometric measurement after the intervention by at least 10 degrees.;It is expected that the knee hyperextension range of motion, ascertained by an inclinometer, will express less variation in relation to the contralateral limb after the intervention.;It is expected that the variability in the measurement of the width of the femorotibial joint space, assessed with an imaging ultrasound, will be greater when the joint traction load corresponds to 30kg.
