Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Adults over 18 years of age of both genders; individuals who present penetration and/or laryngotracheal aspiration for liquids during the video swallow examination
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients with contraindication for testing with liquids (those with evidence of massive aspiration of moderately thickened food where it is necessary to interrupt the test due to safety protocol, who have a previous tracheoesophageal fistula diagnosed or who do not present any swallowing response); individuals who present clinical instability and sensory oscillation that make it impossible to perform the exam; individuals who present postural changes that limit positioning for the exam; patients who are allergic to barium contrast
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| It is expected to verify whether there is a reduction in the level of penetration and/or laryngotracheal aspiration during the swallowing of carbonated water compared to the swallowing of non-carbonated water through the video swallow examination | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| It is expected that there may be some association between the secondary variables, which are the age, sex and underlying pathology of the participants, with the level of penetration and/or laryngotracheal aspiration, according to the statistical analysis proposed for this study. | — |
