Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Women scheduled for emergency caesarean section (primary or repeat lower segment CS) Provided written informed consent Emergency CS defined as delivery indicated by immediate maternal or fetal compromise requiring expedited delivery (consistent with RCOG categories 1 and 2)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Positive UTI screening Chorioamnionitis Severe haemorrhage Severe pre-eclampsia/eclampsia Obstructed labour Uterine rupture General anaesthesia Iatrogenic bladder or ureteric injury

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Acute urinary retention, defined as inability to void within 6 hours of catheter removal, with a painful, palpable bladder, necessitating recatheterization with drainage =150 mL

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Significant bacteriuria, defined as =105 colony-forming units (CFU)/mL on urine culture at 48 hours postoperatively;Urinary symptoms including dysuria, urgency, frequency, suprapubic pain, straining, incontinence, and haematuria;Postoperative fever;Recovery indices: time to first void, time to ambulation, time to bowel sounds, length of hospital stay;Catheter-related discomfort (NRS 0-10)
