Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Women aged 18-40 years. 2. Primigravida or multigravida women with term singleton pregnancy prepared for term elective cesarean section delivery under spinal anesthesia. 3. No history of gastrointestinal disorders (e.g., peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome). 4. Free from any dental problems. 5. No operative or postoperative complications
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Women undergoing emergency cesarean delivery, or cesarean hysterectomy. 2. Preoperative laxatives usage. 3. Postoperative endotracheal tube or admission to intensive care. 4. Women with a history of inflammatory bowel diseases, previous bowel surgery (except for appendectomy), or previous abdominal or pelvic radiation. 5. The use of inhaled anesthetics or epidural analgesia . 6. Women with severe pre-existing medical conditions such as uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease chronic renal disease, or electrolyte imbalances, that must be evidenced by investigations such as (Na - K) 8. Women who are unable to follow postoperative care instructions (e.g., language barriers, cognitive impairments). 9. Women who have contraindications to chewing gum (e.g., temporomandibular joint disorders). 10. Contraindications of dexamethasone as chronic hypertension, gestational hypertension, gestational diabetes, cardiac disease.
