Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Male sex between the ages of 18 and 40 years A homogenous male sample is preferred to exclude interfering factors of a female sample such as hormones and reproductive cycles. Ages 18-40 is preferred to reduce the risk of exclusion considering the age incidence of diseases. Normal blood pressure (more than 90/50 mmHg and less than 140/90 mmHg based on vitals of endurance athletes). No alcohol, tobacco, caffeine or other stimulants 24 hours before the consult. Runner that runs more than 32 km per week.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: History of cervical spine trauma or surgery. History of heart disease (coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, cardiomyopathy), vascular disease (artery stenosis, varicose veins, embolism), diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cancer, stroke or chronic inflammatory disease (rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis). Abnormalities upon cardiovascular and physical examination (the physiological changes of the heart, particularly in athletes will be accommodated for). Any abnormalities detected such as murmurs, thrills, arrhythmia, abnormal vital signs and any other physical findings that are a cause for concern relating to overall health will result in the participant being excluded from the study. Other more rare contra-indications to chiropractic cervical spine manipulation that may be revealed during the consultation (Hutting et al., 2018).
