Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: willing to receive all prenatal services and deliver in the study facility.• age =18 years,• gestational age 24 -28 weeks, singleton pregnancy, diagnosed with GDM, not currently on any medication that is known to interfere with glucose metabolism (gatifloxacin, ß-blockers, thiazide diuretics, Clozapine, olanzapine, haloperidol)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • known overt diabetes. • FPG =7.0 mmo1/L or 2-h plasma glucose =11.1 mmo1/L • pregnancy following in vitro fertilization or any assisted reproductive technology. Mothers diagnosed with other conditions where lifestyle modification is required (cardiomyopathy, congenital heart defects, Hyperemesis Gravidarum). Previous or current psychiatric illness (epileptic seizures, or antiepileptic medication)26 • heart disease, restrictive lung disease, incompetent cervix/cerclage. pregnancies at risk for premature labour, being HIV-positive, severe anaemia
