Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: For caregivers, inclusion criteria are: aged 18 years or older primary caregiver of an adolescent aged 10–17 years living in the same household at least 4 nights per week in the past month basic literacy, defined at screening as reporting they can read “with a little difficulty” or “easily” willing to participate in either the ParentApp or WASH control programme able to provide written and/or oral informed consent. For adolescents, inclusion criteria are: aged 10–17 years dependent of a caregiver who meets the caregiver eligibility criteria and is enrolled in the trial able to provide written and/or oral assent have caregiver written and/or oral consent for participation.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: caregivers who report they cannot read at all or can read only with lots of difficulty any participant with severe mental health problems or acute mental disabilities that prevent provision of informed consent.
