Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria for both intervention and control groups Participants will be eligible for inclusion in this study if they meet the following: a. adult (at least 18years old) with a clinical diagnosis of stroke and discharged home to start outpatient physiotherapy b. No severe spasticity c. able to participate in culturally tailored task-specific rehabilitation exercises with or without assistance (mild to moderate motor impairment) d. be able to give informed consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria for both intervention and control groups a. patients with severe cognitive impairments b. patients with severe medical conditions or contraindications to physical activity c. patients with muscle power less than 2 and unable to make movements with hand. All eligible participants will be randomly allocated to either the intervention or control group using 1:1 ratio, after both groups meet same inclusion and exclusion criteria.

Findings from this study could contribute to the development of more patient-centered and culturally responsive rehabilitation programmes which may enhance patient engagement through culturally meaningful exercises. Through validated instruments like Action Research Arm Test (ARAT) and Motor Activity Log (MAL), this research connects standardized protocols with culturally-tailored rehabilitation methods. The results could promote greater cultural adaptation of clinical measures, strengthening the global applicability of rehabilitation science.

In a healthcare system with limited resources like Ghana, maximizing patient outcomes through tailored and cost-effective interventions using locally available materials is important. Outcome from this study can inform rehabilitation policy and practice by providing evidence for the integration of culturally meaningful tasks into rehabilitation. By bridging the gap between evidence-based practice and cultural relevance, this research has the ability to transform upper limb rehabilitation approaches for stroke survivors in Ghana and serve as a model for other low- and middle-income nations met with similar challenge.
