Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Were adults aged 18 years or older requiring single-tooth, multiple, or full-arch implant rehabilitation in the maxilla and/or mandible. Availability of high-quality pre-operative and post-operative CBCT scans (e.g., at 6 months or 1 year) with clear visibility of the implant-bone interface. Presented with sufficient alveolar bone volume to accommodate the planned implant dimensions Demonstrated acceptable oral hygiene and agreed to attend scheduled follow-up visits.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients had neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., autism) that could compromise treatment outcomes or compliance. * Patients on medications that affect bone metabolism (e.g., bisphosphonates, long-term corticosteroids) or uncontrolled diabetes (HbA1c > 7%). * Presented with acute infection at the intended immediate implant site at the time of extraction. Showed active periodontal disease or other acute oral infections at prospective implant sites. * Patients with acute infection at the intended immediate implant site at the time of extraction, or with active periodontal disease or other acute oral infections at potential implant sites. * Had a history of head and neck radiotherapy or heavy smokers (e.g., >10 cigarettes/day). * Cases requiring major vertical or horizontal bone grafting (e.g., sinus lifts or block grafts) that would make it difficult to distinguish "native" marginal bone levels. * Parafunctional Habits: Documented severe bruxism or clenching that was not managed with an occlusal guard.

The primary outcome of this study was the change in marginal bone marginal (MBL) around dental implants over a 12-month follow-up period, measured at the mesial, distal, surfaces using CBCT imaging. MBL change was determined by assessing the distance from the implant platform to the first bone-to-implant contact (fBIC) at baseline and comparing it with subsequent measurements

Additional outcomes included the evaluation of crestal bone levels and the detection of peri-implant radiolucency, defined as visible gaps or radiolucent areas between the implant and surrounding bone on radiographs, which may indicate compromised osseointegration or early pathology. The study also aimed to compare temporal changes in bone levels between immediate and delayed protocols and to explore correlations between MBL changes and clinical factors such as implant sites, patient age, and smoking status. Together, these assessments provided a comprehensive evaluation of peri-implant bone behavior and the factors influencing remodeling in both placement protocols.
