Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: All pregnant women with an indication for caesarean section during the study period without added risk for infection that give informed consent
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Hypersensitivity/Allergy to penicillin or metronidazole Patients with prolonged rupture of membranes of > 24hours or clinical chorioamnionitis. Patients with obstructed labour Parturients who have had 6 or more vaginal examinations in active phase of labour Patients with chronic medical conditions like sickle cell disease, diabetes in pregnancy, renal disease, cardiac disease Patients with HIV infection Patients with anaemia (PCV<30%) Patients with fever(axillary temperature of at least 38°C ) or ongoing infection at time of surgery. Patients who have received antibiotics 1week prior to surgery Patients 90kg and above at booking
