Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Neonatal weight 1,000-2,500 g Singleton or twin babies Neonates eligible for KMC during all or part of their hospital stay during their cycle period Neonates eligible for KMC were those with a caregiver available and able to provide KMC and neonates who were clinically stable with the following: Hemodynamically stable Room air or requiring nasal cannula Without inotropic support for at least 12 hours Apnea-free for 24 hours Seizure-free for 24 hours Alert
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Mother had given birth to three or more children Patients deemed ineligible for KMC by physician Unwilling to sign consent Neonates with conditions excluding them from KMC including: Hypothermia (despite efforts to keep the baby warm) Seizures Apnea Respiratory distress (retractions, grunting, nasal flaring) Bubble CPAP or mechanical ventilation Drowsiness (excessive sleep or reduced activity) Jaundice requiring phototherapy Unstable condition Umbilical line Congenital malformations that interfere with KMC
