Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All admitted patients to the PICU aged 1 month to 12 years

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients will be excluded if they are surgical admissions; have suspected gastrointestinal perforation or obstruction; have severe neutropenia (= 0.5 × 10? cells/L); have chronic immunological diseases or have received immunosuppressive therapy within the three months prior to admission; are oncology patients receiving active treatment; are breastfed during the PICU stay; have received probiotic supplementation within the two weeks before admission; have absolute contraindications to enteral medication; have acute pancreatitis; or die within the first 72 hours of PICU admission.
