Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: • Registered full-time or sandwich undergraduate students at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. • Aged between 18 and 35 years. • Screened using the adapted Noise-Induced Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-N). • PSS-N score between 30 and 40, indicating severe noise-related perceived stress. • Screened using the adapted Noise-Related Anxiety Scale (GAD-7-N). • GAD-7-N score between 14 and 21, indicating moderate-to-severe noise-related anxiety. • Must meet at least one of the above symptom thresholds (high stress or high anxiety). • Ability to attend all eight weekly 60-minute CBMT sessions. • Ability and willingness to provide written informed consent prior to enrolment.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: • Current diagnosis of a psychotic disorder or bipolar disorder. • Presence of active suicidal ideation requiring urgent psychiatric care. • Ongoing participation in structured psychological treatment for stress or anxiety at the time of recruitment. • Hearing impairment that would interfere with participation in music-based listening or rhythmic activities. • Use of medications known to substantially affect physiological stress responses (e.g., antidepressants, anxiolytics, beta blockers, or systemic corticosteroids), unless dosage had remained stable for at least three months and was approved by a qualified healthcare provider.
