Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Pregnant women at term 37-42 weeks gestational age for caesarean section 2. Pregnant women who were booked for both elective and schedule caesarean sections.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with documented bleeding disorders 2. Antepartum haemorrhage 3. Medical diseases in pregnancy, such as cardiac disease, or hemoglobinopathies 4. Multiple gestation 5. Women with co-existing uterine pathology e.g. fibroids 6. Patient with reaction to melatonin

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The quantity of blood loss during a caesarean section.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary Outcome Measures are 1. The need for additional uterotonics to control bleeding. 2. The need for blood transfusion during or after the surgery 3. Maternal side effects (nausea, vomiting, headache, skin rash, dizziness, hypotension, bradycardia and maternal death)
