Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients with a first episode of ischaemic or haemorrhagic stroke detected by brain scan or magnetic resonance imaging • Patients with moderate to severe left or right hemiplegia or hemiparesis, whose muscle strength on the hemiplegic side is rated 0 or 5 according to the Held and Pierrot Desseilligny rating scale. [21] (Appendix 1) • Patients over the age of 18; • With a clinical condition deemed stable, with a medical prescription to begin physiotherapy sessions • Patients with carers who are available during hospitalisation to assist them with the exercise programme • Carers in good mental and physical condition • Patients who, apart from their usual medical treatment, are not receiving any other treatment apart from rehabilitation care • The same carer must be available from the start to the end of the study (5 days)
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Comatose patients who are intubated for oxygen therapy or who have a nasogastric tube Patients who have suffered a recurrent stroke Patients who will be hospitalised for less than five days Patients with severe cognitive impairment Carers in poor physical or mental health
