Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adult patients (age >18 years). Underwent high-risk abdominal surgery (e.g., major gastrointestinal surgery, peritonitis, trauma laparotomy, abdominal sepsis). Intubated postoperatively and extubated during ICU stay.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Pre-existing peripheral vascular disease affecting pulse oximeter readings. Upper limb injuries or amputations. Do-not-intubate (DNI) status. Extubated outside the ICU. Reintubation due to upper airway obstruction only.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
the association between low PPI values within the first 24 hours after extubation and the incidence of reintubation within 72 hours

MeasureTime frame
Correlation between PPI values and markers of tissue perfusion (e.g., lactate levels, ScvO2 if available).;Association between PPI and ICU length of stay; cutoff values of PPI predictive of reintubation.
