Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age = 14 years Undergoing open appendectomy for acute appendicitis (elective cases excluded) Skin incision type: McBurney/Gridiron or Lanz Able and willing to provide informed consent (patient or legal guardian)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Laparoscopic appendectomy or conversion to laparoscopic approach Previous abdominal surgery at the same site Pre-existing skin infection at the surgical site

Incidence of superficial surgical-site infection (SSI) within 30 days after open appendectomy, defined according to CDC/NHSN criteria (purulent drainage, positive culture, or surgeon diagnosis).	—

Incidence of seroma or subcutaneous abscess formation within 30 days after open appendectomy.;Incidence of wound dehiscence (partial or complete) within 30 days.;Incidence of drain-site infection or drain-related complications within 30 days.;Postoperative pain measured using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS, 0–10 cm).;Cosmetic outcome of the scar, assessed at day 30 (±5 days) using the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale.	—
