Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Eligible patients were adults with cytologically or histologically confirmed pleural effusion in the setting of malignancy who were capable of providing informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria included pleural effusion from non-malignant causes (e.g., heart failure, pneumonia), prior thoracic surgery on the same side, coagulopathy or active bleeding disorder, uncontrolled systemic infection, or refusal to participate.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Successful pleurodesis at 30 days, defined as a complete response (CR), no radiographic evidence of fluid reaccumulation compared with the immediate post-procedure baseline. All other cases were classified as failures.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Postoperative pain, complications, ICU admission, and length of hospital stay
