Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: o adult patients (>= 18 years of age) o recent ischaemic or hemorrhagic stroke (first 4 weeks post-stroke). o patients with no contraindications to physical exercise (evaluated by a doctor). o paretic pelvic muscle strength defined by the Motricity Index score between 14 and 19; o patient able to walk at least 10 meters with or without assistance devices; o patient capable of understanding simple instructions; o informed consent of the patient to participate in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: o uncontrolled cardiac arrhythmias (eg, atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia), o heart failure or recent myocardial infarction, arteriopathy, o primary orthopaedic conditions (eg, fractures, active rheumatoid arthritis), o other neurological diseases (eg, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease), o exercise-induced asthma, metabolic (diabetes), and, o patients unable to perform a maximal exercise test, i.e. unable to reach the target pedaling rate of 50 rpm
