Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age between 3 and 18 years. Diagnosed with one of the following: Sickle cell anemia (HbSS) Sickle cell trait Sickle beta thalassemia (HbSß° or HbSß?)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with hemolytic anemias other than sickle cell. 2. Patients with known renal anomalies. 3. Patients refused to participate in the study.

MeasureTime frame
Prevalence of renal affection in pediatric patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) Description: Renal affection (composite outcome) will be defined as the presence of one or more of the following abnormalities: 1. Elevated morning urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR) > 30 mg/g 2. Abnormal kidney function tests (elevated serum creatinine and/or blood urea nitrogen above age-adjusted reference ranges) 3. Abnormal renal imaging findings (ultrasound, and intravenous pyelogram or CT scan when clinically indicated) The primary outcome will be the percentage of participants who meet any of these criteria during the study period.

Association between adherence to hydroxyurea therapy and renal affection Description: Evaluate the association between adherence to hydroxyurea treatment (assessed by pill count, refill records, or patient self-report) and the presence of renal affection.
