Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: • Patients aged between 18-60 years’ old • ASA physical status I- II, of either sex • Elective anterior cervical discectomy and fusion under general anesthesia.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Pre-existing bradycardia [heart rate (HR) below 50/min]. 2. Hypotension (systolic arterial pressure 140/90) 4. Planned elective postoperative ventilation; poor respiratory reserve and poor cough reflex. 5. Presence of cardiac, renal, hepatic, neurological and respiratory dysfunction; cognitive impairment. 6. Known allergy to a2 -agonists. 7. Use of ß-blockers, digoxin, , or a2 -agonists.
