Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria: age between 18 and 59 years, newly diagnosed typical bacterial pneumonia, productive cough, not receiving antibiotics before enrollment, and agreement to participate.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria: age 60 years, history of chronic respiratory or systemic diseases, immunodeficiency, other concurrent infections requiring antibiotics, recent (within 48 h) use of vitamin C or antibiotics, allergies to study medications, smoking, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or participation in another clinical trial.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Combining vitamin C and zinc with antibiotics significantly enhanced bacterial clearance, reduced inflammatory cytokine expression, and accelerated clinical recovery in CABP compared to antibiotics alone.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Antibiotic course duration was shortest in Ab+VC+Z (median; 6 days) compared to Ab+VC (median; 8 days) and Ab (median; 10 days, p < 0.001).
