Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Women who are assessed to have an episiotomy at delivery. Those who gave consent to participate in the study. Haemodynamically stable patient
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Episiotomy that extended to third or fourth degree perineal tears, as the tissue injury is more extensive with more inflammatory response and pain; therefore, comparison may not be objective. 2. Known allergy to local anaesthetics or magnesium sulphate 3. preterm delivery 4. delivery of a dead baby 5. postpartum haemorrhage from any cause 6. chronic use of analgesics for any disease 7. labour analgesia 8. unbooked patients
