Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All consenting pregnant women undergoing caesarean section at ISTH during the study period

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Pregnant women with clinical suspicion of maternal infection (such as fever, hypothermia, tachycardia and tachypnoea), prolonged rupture of membranes (=24hours) and chorioamnionitis. 2.Women with cephalosporin or metronidazole allergy. 3.Exposure to any antibiotic agent within 1 week before delivery. 4.Patients with co-morbidities like diabetes mellitus, renal disease, obesity (weight =90 kg), anaemia (packed cell volume <30%), and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) positive women. 5.Pregnant women less than 18 years of age.
